Bio
First descents down Denali, victories in alpine freeskiing contests, big lines in ski movies, appearances in ski magazines, high results in endurance races and yoga teaching certifications make up just a fraction of Nick Devore’s impressive resume. Recognized as one of the worlds most progressive telemark skiers, DeVore shatters telemark stereo-types and continues to diminish the gap between alpine and freeheel skiing. . “He’s probably one of the best, if not the best, Telemarker out there today.”
(Telemark Skier, October 2007)
An Aspen, Colorado native, DeVore took to the alpine arts as a youngster — particularly skiing and climbing. Nowadays, Nick naturally combines the adventure of mountaineering and climbing with the freedom of high-speed telemark ski descents. Not only does DeVore compete against the highest level of alpine skiers but he has also skied most of 20,320-foot Denali, including two 1st descents down its steep slopes. DeVore has also thrown down innovative descents on 24 of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks, including classics nearby his hometown like the North Face of North Maroon Peak and the East Face of Castle Peak. Leading industry sponsors such as Black Diamond, Marmot, and Backcountry.com recognize Nick as a strong representative of Telemarking and the explosion of the rapidly growing ski trend. An example of this free-heel revolution includes Nick’s domination over the Colorado Freeride Series in 2005, leaving alpiners awestruck. Inspiring others has contributed to his elitist status and helped him earn articles and photographs in newspapers, magazines and catalogues, such as a two page spread in Skiing Magazine, an interview in Outside Magazines Buyers Guide and an article in Powder Magazine.
DeVore, a positive role model, displays a healthy and well-balanced approach to life while facing the challenges of tele-ski/mountaineering. Nick dreams of leading a sustainable, well-rounded lifestyle, totally in control of his energy. As a passionate yogi, Nick strongly believes that through the union of mind and body, he can learn to do anything — like surf gravity. Nick applies this philosophy to the backcountry arts, characterized by a respect for nature and a Zen-like mental discipline and physical determination.
When not maching down the steep and deep, Nick can be found rock climbing around the world, slack-lineing over some gorge, mountain biking Colorado’s single-track, doing head stands on mountain peaks or perhaps crocheting hats. (Nick dreams about his Hat Company, senseistitches.com, taking off one day.)
“Nick has been nothing short of amazing on this trip, strong as an ox, confident, and jovial at all times.” — Chris Davenport, two-time former World Extreme Skiing Champion, on his skithe14ers.com website
