I recently returned from an epic month of surfing in Mexico to plesent thanksgiving surprise of fresh snow and an open ski mountain. After trying pretty hard I have finally got the hang of surfing and am excited to surf again. But for now, the ski season is upon us!! I am stoked to take some surf style to me skiing this winter. Teepee is winterized and Im off to Mexico

After a ton more work than expected we have finally finished our teepee and are somewhat prepared to burl out the winter. We capped the the hole in the top, installed our wood burning stove and chimney, built our out house, made steps down to the creek, and stocked up on fire wood. I am now in Saladita Mexico working on my surf skills, doing yoga, and chillin like a villin.

Living in the Round, I now call a teepee my humble home.

My girlfriend, Jacqui Edgerly and I have been working hard for the past few months to get our new teepee erected and cozy. The temperatures are starting to drop and we are getting settled into our new round home. We plan to spend the winter in the teepee and are prepared for an adventure. We will use a wood burning stove for heat, the river and snow for water, compost all our waste even our poop and have sled access to the Maroon Bells Wilderness. We are now busy instaling the stove and stoking up on wood and are just about finsihed with out outhouse. I am so excited about my new home and am stoked for a bit of a lifestyle change. Stay tuned for teepee storys and photos, im sure they will be some good ones.

Bow Hunting in the Elk Mountains

I have found yet another passion, another way of life, a key aspect to my way of a sustainable lifestyle in the mountains and a way to train for skiing; elk hunting with a bow. My great friend and tele ski partner, Will Cardamone has been hunting for years and has finally helped me see the light. Although I didnt shoot an elk this season, I hunted twenty days in the last month, bushwacking about the vertical of everest from sea level. I got amongst elk herds and close to big bull elk many times, experiencing their day to day lifestyle, their rut, and their migration routs, it has been amazing and I have learned so much and become much stronger. The best part of bow hunting was that is brought me to so many amazing places and allowed me to aimlessly explore my backyard. I scouted many ski lines and am so fired up to ski around the elk mountains this winter! Following are some shots from my bow season, although I dint shoot an elk I shot many photographs and had a blast.

Mountain Goat Sensei

To make a very long story short, I will mostly let my photographs and the goat speak for themselves. I took a trip up to a very special lake high in the Elk mountains of Colorado. The fishing was great and the views were spectacular. The highlight was definitely my journey chasing after a magnificent mountain goat. I became savage and connected to the great spirit, and hunted the agile and quick mountain goat with my camera, I was on a mission to get close enough to the goat to photograph it. The graceful beast led me on an inspirational journey up steep scree fields and across thin ridges to a high peak with spectacular views. I became one with spirit and goat and meditated through a thunder storm witnessing a rainbow materialize and the magic of nature, our mother earth, and the great spirit that is all of life. I found a new passion for mountain exploration and big mountain skiing, and found my new mentor, the mountain goat.

The first annual Portillo Big Mountain Telemark Camp ends with nothing but face shots and smiles!

With two years of planning and preparation, my dream of starting a Big Mountain Telemark Camp in Portillo, Chile has just come true. The Crew was awesome and we were blessed with nothing but fresh snow the whole week. Every one improved and ripped one of the best lines of their lives, the “lake run,” as well as many other memorable lines. We practiced yoga twice daily, keeping us loose and injury free. I had a blast with the camp and learned so much from everyone as well as the mountains and myself. I cant wait for next year already! We have been in lockdown in the hotel for the past two days while an enormous storm dropped over three feet of snow on portillo. This morning went blue and it was a spectacular site, avalanches roared from high cliffs and the sun glistened off the mountains and lake, and then we laid down some fresh tracks when the mountain finally opened in the afternoon. I have finally put together some photos and a video of my broken elbow accident this past january in Canada.

After a hectic Christmas at home in Aspen Jacqui and I headed north to British Columbia. We spent most of new years eve getting raped by the border patrol but barely made it to our dear friends house in Rossland where we celebrated the new year, we had a blast hanging with good people form Canada. The next day we cruised north to Revelstoke to meet our friends, the Sweetgrass Productions crew. We had a warm welcome into a phat house that some random dude who was not there was letting us stay in. We had two epic deep days at Rogers Pass but couldn’t see much of anything. One our third day there we hit up the new resort which is sick and has six thousand vert of pretty steep terrain with epic back bowls and endless gnarly lines to be skied. We ripped around all morning and then headed out the back to film some lines. I hit sweet line with deep deep snow and then scoped out another pretty roudy line that didnt end up goin so well, I hit it perfectly but landed on a hiding rock and shattered my elbow. I was headed home for surgery the next day. “Lying in the hospital bed in Revelstoke, BC with broken elbow that looked like a Popeye arm, I clung to the slight chance that I could keep skiing in British Columbia, Canada for the remaining 27 days of my month-long trip…” For a detailed story of this accident check this link, Broken Elbow.
